A Very Rare Blue John and Ormolu Rotary clock Circa 1850 and Probably Made for King Henri V also Known as Count of Chambord
Having a domed Blue John lid above a Blue John vase with a Rotary movement with an opening on one side to reveal an enamel dial wit Arabic Numerals interspersed with the Royal Fleur de Lis. The vase supported on three legs with ormolu heads and ringed horns above a curved leg leading to a platform sitting on three tortoises.
Henry V
Henri was born on 29th September 1820 in the Tuileries Palace in the compound of the Louvre Palace in Paris. His father the duc de Berry had been assassinated seven months before Henri birth. With the deaths of his 79-year-old grandfather Charles X in 1836 and of his Uncle Louis Philippe in 1844 young Henri became the King of France until his death in 1883. He was the last legitimate descendant of Louis XV of France in the male line. One of his first acts on becoming King was to restore the white flag with the fleur -de-lis which since Louis VI (1120 – 1180) has been used as an emblem of their sovereignty.
